Cross curricular assignment update #1

Currently what I have done on my cross curricular art assignment I have had a photo taken of me, and found a photo of a gorrilla online and printed both of them off on projector paper. Once that was done I borrowed a projector that was not being used, and made a canvas to be painted on. When the canvas was constructed I painted it with a good primer so then paint will be easier to apply later on. Soon I plan to use the projector and trace out the photos on the canvas so then I will be able to paint everything later. So far everything is going as planned and I hope it will continue this way so then it will look good in the end.

Cross curricular art

I have decide for my cross coricular art assignment that i will do a cross between art and biology. The unit in biology that I will be crossing art with will be evolution. To do this I will have an image of myself and a gorilla, half of my face will be my face and the other will be the gorilla which will show evolution from how humans once were gorillas to how they are now. The way I will present this art work will be in a black and white painting on canvas, doing this I will be able to show the mix between the art works as they blend together

What Is Baroque Art

Baroque art is a certain period of artistic time which was

between the 1600's-1750's. the baroque art style that
reveled in the effects of light and shadowing, using the colors
grays, browns, and greens, not using clear colors. Mainly
pictures from this era portrayed the characters as being
very subtle during situations ofchaos, conflict, and passion.

Baroque Artists Caravaggio
A famous Italian Baroque artist name Michelangelo Merisi o Amerighi da Caravaggio (short from Caravaggio) was an amazing and passionate artist that lived during the 15th-16th century. Most of his paintings are very dark and mysterious that usually represented a certain time period. Caravaggio was able to paint dark and mysterious paintings because his life was filled with chaos, he was accused of murder, assault, and consulting with the devil. Since Caravaggio had so many problems in his life that he was able to create amazing artworks that has been able to last through the ages. Caravaggio is one of the most famous baroque time period artists, he has been able to use his artistic ability to put all of his emotions into the painting using the skill of light to darkness shading contrast, and particularly strong colorism.

As you can tell in this painting from the artist Caravaggio the emotional theme in this image is murder. to effectively portray this theme the artist would have to use specific light to dark shading ratios making the painting seem dark, by having the cut off head in the front of the painting people are able to see the trauma and shame in the women eyes as well as the anger and satisfaction that is in the males eyes. as you can tell Caravaggio's art style is very dark

Relevance

Baroque art is relevant to its time because baroque art is known to be scenes of dramatic events, scenes of happiness, or scenes of life changing events and during the 16th century the catholic church was in charge in which many dark or religious paintings were created. during the time of the baroque era this artistic style amazed many men and woman since the detail and graphic designs were so appealing to all. the catholic church controlled much of the society in the Baroque era that many people were exposed to these paintings causing them to believe that these painting were truly amazing to see.

In this drawing it shows a hand struggling to hold on to a cliff from falling down into all of the problems that are surrounding it. The person that is holding onto the cliff represents myself struggling to pull myself up to hope, but if i give up i will fall into a valley filled with all of my problems and they will never let me go. the further you look back into the image, the stronger my problems are and the more I will struggle with them. In all cases there is always a hope, but to escape your struggles you must be strong enough to accept them in your life.

Why Did I choose To Do A Drawing

The reason why i chose to represent my struggle art as a drawing instead of a painting or any other style of art is because then I can represent the darkness of my struggles and how effective those struggles are. also if I did choose to do a drawing with color it could possibly show happiness were as this drawing should be dark to set the mood of sadness. 

How Did I like The Outcome Of This Drawing

I really like the way my drawing came out because it really does show all of the feeling I wanted to put in it. At the same time you can tell what it is and you can get and understanding what the meaning of this art is without having to read the description of it.

The reason why our group has chosen the Celtic spiral knot is because this design follows the golden ratio law. Also this design is very interesting and would be cool to see from an over head view in the landscape. it may seem difficult to do since the lines must be perfect and there are so many curves, but it will be worth the challenge. to do this landscape art design Matthew, Brittany, Erik and I will go out to Erik's house and draw this design in the snow. the field that we use must be at least 15X15 ft since our design will be 10X10 ft, to do this design we will use shovels, measuring tapes and spray paint to mark areas. to take this picture we will capture it through a window in Erik's house.

Celtic Spiral Knot

On Wednesday February 26, 2014 Brittany, Erik and I all met at Erik's house to do our design. we found a flat area out at Erik's house where we could do our design. so we all put on snow shoes and mapped out a square that was 15X15 ft where we could put the spiral knot inside of it. after we had our square laid out we found the spots of interception of the square and the spiral knot and started to make the three spirals by walking in the snow with snowshoes. doing so one person would have to walk out the design in the snow (Me), another person would need to guild the person stomping out the design in the snow to where they would need to go (Brittany), and the final person would need to pack the snow behind the person mapping out the design in the snow (Erik). when the three spirals were finished we continued the lines towards the center of the spiral knot where they would all connect together. Once the spiral knot was finished we all went around the design and fixed any imperfections so then it would look better. Erik's mom then found a tall snow pile to stand on and take a picture since Brittany, Erik and I did not have a good enough camera to capture our land art design in the snow. Our land art design was interesting to do since it was hard to walk around in the snow and properly get the design laid out in the snow, but eventually we figured out a technique that allowed us to get the proper curves in the design for the spirals and that was to have someone guild the walker through. after that we were able to get the proper curvatures in the snow.

viewers think of what our world has come to be.

Art is the expression of someones feelings being applied to their skill of creativity and imagination. in which it is usually presented in a way of being visualized by others, it can be presented in ways of paintings, sculptures, drawings, pastels, graffiti, and specifically oriented shapes. in some cases art can have many hours of work put into it and others can have very little put into it, and it can be considered art just by the way it is interpreted by people. since people doing so are granted the opportunity to create amazing works of art and are able to be produced and appreciated by all.  

What Is In between Art and Not Art?

The work that is in between art and not art are works that could be art but at the same time not art, as if it was interversal. an example of something that is in between art and not art is packaging because the advertisements are supposed to be appealing to the eyes, but at the same time its is a product that is meant to be eaten and not admired forever.

What Isn't Art

In a way any inanimate object can be seen as art; but it all matters on the perspective you have on it. For example, a rock is art, it has symmetrical ridges, color contrast to the area it is placed, texture, and many more; in which most people would not consider a rock being art.    

As you can see this rock formation is appealing to the

eye because of it's distinctive ridges, texture, color

formation, line structure, and shading. most people when

 they see this picture would assume it is not art but yet it is.
